Advanced Research & Development

When off-the-shelf solutions aren’t enough, THS uses research and development to create materials for demanding applications.

Once we understand your requirements, we develop prototypes and test them in our laboratory to ensure they meet your specifications. This involves careful refinement and applying our expertise to deliver the right solution.

Prototypes that pass lab testing are then provided for you to trial in real-world conditions. Based on these results, we work with you to determine the best production options.

We have experience handling temperatures from absolute zero to 2500°C and designing materials to withstand vibration, flexing, and harsh environments.

Lab Testing Capabilities

As part of our ongoing commitment to product quality and performance, THS operates a bespoke in-house laboratory facility where we carry out a growing range of material tests. This enables us to validate products to a higher standard, giving our customers greater confidence in the materials they specify and use. 

Our lab is currently conducting the following tests:

• Accelerated Weathering – simulating long-term environmental exposure to assess material durability over time
• UV Exposure – evaluating how materials respond to prolonged ultraviolet light
• Breathability – measuring the air and moisture vapour permeability of fabrics
• Tensile Strength (commissioning in progress) – testing the load-bearing capacity of materials under tension
• Tear Strength (commissioning in progress) – assessing resistance to tearing under force
• Calorimeter Testing – measuring heat release and thermal properties of materials. We are able to measure heat release and thermal properties of materials, given in calories: MJ/kg, according to ISO 1716. This allows us to make calculations of how a fabric may perform through EN 13501 classification. 

As our lab capabilities continue to expand, we are investing in the equipment and processes needed to offer an even more comprehensive in-house testing service. Though we aren’t accredited to issue certification, we are following test standards to add confidence and quickly verify the performance of our products. This further reinforces our promise of quality you can trust.
