Temperature Resistance – Up To 250°C
Another significant process THS utilise to produce glass fabrics with enhanced properties and benefits is lamination – the bonding of other materials to the glass including metallic foils and films, foams, felts and adhesive backings.
The metallic laminates are highly reflective and are primarily used as radiant insulation layers, foams and felts can increase acoustic properties, and be used for making soft to touch protective covers.
Adhesive Technology & Temperature Performance
Especially at elevated temperatures, laminates rely on the adhesive, which becomes the critical performance point. While aluminium foil and glass fibre can withstand temperatures above 500°C, most adhesives will not perform at the same level. As a result, temperature ratings for laminated fabrics are defined by the adhesive system used.
We utilise a range of adhesive technologies with performance up to 250°C. Our standard system offers resistance of up to 150°C, with specialist options available for higher-temperature applications:
- PU-based systems
- High-temperature silicone
- Thermoplastic systems
- Acrylic adhesives
- Sodium silicate (very stiff and brittle)
THS can also take a customer’s own fabric or material and bond it to glass cloth, or laminate a range of other materials to it, not limited to the below.

* All laminates that can be used on woven glass cloth could also be used on other woven fabrics. Foams and felts are usually dealt with on a commission basis, taking customer own foam/felt and laminating to one of our products, however we can provide an in-full solution where required.
**Temperature is rated on the lowest rated part of the products make-up, usually the adhesive, but in some cases the fabric, where some adhesives may out-perform a polyester or nylon.

Aluminium Foil (Alu)
THS uses aluminium foil as a key material to make glass fibre fabrics that have enhanced properties and benefits. The metal laminates are highly reflective and form a strong barrier.
Foams & Felts
An endless array of possibilities, this can often involve the addition of acoustic foams and layers for applications requiring sound abatement, and backing of protective covers and fabrics with soft-to-touch liners for skin contact or delicate surfaces.
Aluminised Film (PET/PES)
The metallic laminates are highly reflective and create an impermeable barrier. Film is somewhat like foil in appearance, but it is very different in its physicality. Film laminates are generally more flexible, stronger, and more durable than foil. It doesn’t have the same resistance to fire – but has excellent reflective properties. Films are manufactured by spraying a polyester film with aluminium pigments on both sides, sometimes known as Mylar ® or Melinex ®.
Adhesive Backings (AB)
Supported and unsupported adhesive backings, usually acrylic-based can be tailored to the exact specification of the job, including a range of adhesive tack levels, upper and lower temperature extremes, and bonding to very low friction substrates.
Stainless Steel (SS)
316L or 304 stainless steel is a highly durable and tough material, making it ideal for high-temperature and challenging environments and applications.

What is the Difference Between Foil and Film Laminated Fabric?
Aluminium foil offers excellent fire resistance and is an effective radiant heat barrier, but is less flexible and more susceptible to creasing than film. Aluminised film is more flexible, stronger and more durable, with excellent reflective properties, but without the same fire resistance as the foil.
What is Stainless Steel Laminated Fabric Used For?
Stainless steel laminated fabric (316L or 304 grade) is a highly durable option suited to high-temperature and challenging environments where aluminium foil would not provide sufficient performance.
Is Adhesive Backed Glass Cloth Available?
Yes. THS supplies glass cloth with adhesive backings, supported and unsupported, typically using acrylic-based adhesive systems. These can be tailored to specific requirements including different tack levels, temperature ranges, and the ability to bond to low-friction substrates.
